Anbernic’s Dual-Screen Handheld Bets on Power at $299.99

The RG DDS arrives with a $299.99 starting price. Anbernic announced the dual-screen handheld on October 11, 2026, positioning it as a Nintendo 3DS-inspired device with hardware aimed at far more demanding games. Preorders begin on October 16th, with shipping expected on December 10th.
That price makes the RG DDS almost double the cost of the original Nintendo 3DS. Anbernic will offer a temporary preorder discount, bringing the entry-level model down to $284.99 before the regular price takes over.
The base configuration includes 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for $299.99. Buyers who want 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage will pay $364.99, turning the premium version into a notably expensive handheld before accessories enter the conversation—assuming there are any accessories to enter it.
Two screens, two aspect ratios
The RG DDS uses two displays with different shapes and resolutions. Its 4.7-inch main display has a 1200 x 720 resolution and a 5:3 aspect ratio, while the 4-inch secondary display offers a 960 x 720 resolution and a 4:3 aspect ratio.
That arrangement mirrors the core idea behind the Nintendo 3DS, but the specifications do not simply copy its screen layout. The upper display uses a wider 5:3 ratio, while the lower display keeps the 4:3 ratio associated with the secondary screen.
Anbernic will sell the RG DDS in Glacier White, Basalt Black and Phantom Blue. The color choices are familiar handheld territory, which is appropriate for a device whose entire pitch depends on making two-screen gaming feel like a serious modern product rather than a collector’s curiosity.
Modern hardware with an unexplained AI button
The RG DDS is powered by a Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 chip. Anbernic says the handheld can emulate Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 2 titles, giving the device a much broader target than the older Nintendo 3DS hardware it resembles.
A 6,000mAh battery supplies power, though the available facts do not provide a battery-life estimate. That leaves the chip, displays and battery capacity as the headline hardware details, with no runtime figure to settle how long the system can sustain demanding emulation.
The handheld also includes a dedicated AI button. Anbernic has not detailed exactly which features the button activates, so for now it is a physical promise attached to an otherwise specified piece of hardware—because apparently every new device needs one mysterious button waiting for a future explanation.
The release schedule is clear even if that button is not. The RG DDS will be available for preorder starting October 16th and is expected to ship on December 10th, 2026, with the premium handheld starting at $299.99 and the 12GB/256GB model reaching $364.99.
