Apple Arcade added Retro Bowl College+ to its roster on August 6, 2026, giving subscribers a new way to manage a college football program through the series’ familiar old-school format. The release brings an expanded version of New Star Games’ 2023 college football spin-off to the platform.
The game keeps the series’ pixel art style and gameplay inspired by Tecmo football games from the 1980s and ’90s. It also adds college-focused decisions, including recruiting, limited budgets, and tracking player GPAs, so the challenge goes beyond calling plays on the field.
A Bigger College Football Management Challenge
Retro Bowl College+ expands the roster to 12 players and adds kick returns, giving teams more control over how they build and play their seasons. The game also includes a detailed team and conference editor, which lets players shape the structure of their college football world.
Exhibition Mode comes unlocked, and the Apple Arcade version removes ads and in-app purchases. It also skips the setup included in the free version of Retro Bowl College, starting with certain features already unlocked instead.
That difference matters because the regular version follows a free-to-play setup on the App Store. Players can buy the $0.99 Unlimited Version, while Coaching Credit packs range from $1.99 to $9.99. Retro Bowl College+ places its focus on the game itself, without those parts of the free version’s setup.
How Retro Bowl College+ Fits The Series
New Star Games released the original Retro Bowl on mobile in January 2020. The developer followed it with Retro Bowl College in September 2023, creating a college football spin-off with its own management problems and team-building demands.
Simon Read is the creator of Retro Bowl, and the series has kept its identity rooted in simple visuals and football gameplay influenced by older console titles. That approach gives the games a clear connection to the 1980s and ’90s while leaving room for deeper decisions around rosters, recruiting, finances, and player development.

The release also creates a straightforward entry point for players who want the college game without the ads and in-app purchases found in the regular version.
