Enovis Targets a New Era of Robotic Surgery Innovation

Enovis Corporation is moving into a major new phase of surgical robotics with a binding offer to acquire eCential Robotics, a French developer of surgical navigation and robotic-assistance systems. Announced on September 1, 2026, the transaction would bring eCential’s modular Op.n platform into Enovis’s technology portfolio, with closing expected by the end of 2026 if regulatory approvals arrive.
The binding offer was entered into on August 31, 2026, setting the stage for a deal that combines surgical navigation, active robotics, and Enovis’s existing augmented reality capabilities. What does that mean for Enovis? The company says the acquisition will expand its ASTRA enabling technology platform with robotic automation capabilities and complement its ARVIS Augmented Reality System.
A €155 Million Push Into Surgical Robotics
The acquisition carries an upfront enterprise value of €155 million. Enovis plans to pay approximately €176 million in cash to eCential Robotics’ shareholders at closing, with up to €35 million in contingent consideration available if certain milestones are achieved.
Enovis will fund the transaction through a combination of cash on its balance sheet and availability under its existing revolving credit facility. The company expects to complete the deal by year-end 2026, subject to regulatory approvals, and Latham & Watkins LLP is serving as legal counsel for Enovis.
Damien McDonald, CEO of Enovis, described the deal as a step in the company’s approach to bringing new technology into its business.
“This acquisition is a significant milestone and reflects our disciplined approach to bringing externally developed innovation into Enovis,” McDonald said.
Enovis will conduct a conference call and webcast on September 1, 2026, at 8:30 AM ET, giving the company an opportunity to discuss the transaction and its plans for eCential Robotics.
Op.n Brings Navigation and Active Robotics Together
At the center of eCential Robotics is Op.n, a modular platform built for surgical navigation and active robotics. The platform holds FDA 510(k) clearance for spine surgery in the United States, while eCential Robotics received 510(k) clearance for the latest generation of the platform in March 2025.
The company obtained FDA certification covering imaging, navigation, and the robotic arm in 2022. That foundation has supported a series of steps toward robotic procedures, including eCential Robotics’ first robotic surgery in 2024.
The platform’s development has also connected eCential Robotics with established surgical technology partners. In 2024, the company collaborated with DePuy Synthes on the Velys Spine robotic system. In 2026, partner Amplitude Surgical performed a robotic knee surgery powered by eCential Robotics technology.
Those milestones give the acquisition a clear technical focus: Enovis is not only adding a robotics company, but also bringing in a platform that covers imaging, navigation, and robotic assistance across surgical workflows. Enovis described Op.n as a complement to ARVIS, creating a connection between robotic automation and augmented reality within its ASTRA enabling technology platform.
From Surgivisio to a U.S. Robotics Operation
eCential Robotics traces its origins to 2009, when founder Stéphane Lavallée created Surgivisio in Grenoble. The business adopted the eCential Robotics name in 2021, then expanded its footprint with headquarters in Gières, France, and U.S. operations in Franklin, Tennessee.
The company opened its U.S. headquarters in Franklin in 2025. Its leadership now includes Clément Vidal as CEO, while Lavallée remains connected to the company’s next chapter through the proposed acquisition.
“I could not be more excited about the next chapter for eCential Robotics. Enovis brings focus, speed, and a real commitment to the future of eCential Robotics,” Lavallée said.
Vidal also emphasized the company’s goal of making advanced surgical tools easier to use.
“Our strategy at eCential Robotics has always been to offer surgeons easy-to-use, cutting-edge technology to improve surgical workflows, and ultimately, enable better patient outcomes,” Vidal said.
The deal now moves toward regulatory review, with the end of 2026 set as Enovis’s target for completion. If approved, the acquisition will place eCential Robotics’ Op.n platform inside Enovis’s ASTRA technology strategy, linking a French robotics developer’s navigation and automation systems with the wider reach of a global medical technology business.
