Fitbit Edge Makes Health Tracking Smarter, Broader, and Ready for More Workouts

Google is turning its newest Fitbit push into a broader health-tracking upgrade, with more workouts recognized, stronger activity detection, and new health insights arriving across its wearables. The Fitbit Edge leads the charge when it reaches stores on October 27, 2026, bringing Health Guardian, improved GPS, longer battery life, and support for more than 50 exercise modes.
The bigger story reaches beyond one device. Google is also upgrading automatic activity tracking for the Fitbit Air, Fitbit Edge, and Pixel Watches 3, 4 and 5, creating a system that can recognize far more movement without asking users to start every workout by hand.
Automatic workout tracking gets a major expansion
Google says the update nearly doubles automatic activity-tracking accuracy and expands the list of recognized workouts from 10 to over 100. The company says the improvements “cut missed workouts by more than half,” targeting a gap that affected fast-moving activities such as tennis, HIIT, and other workouts.
That change could make everyday tracking feel far more complete. A workout no longer has to fit into a short list of familiar activities before a wearable can identify it, and users can expect better detection across Fitbit Air, Fitbit Edge, and the three listed Pixel Watch models.
Google introduced its new Health app to replace the Fitbit app, giving these tracking updates a new home. The app will also connect with Abbott’s Lingo continuous glucose monitor, which will become available to users in the United States soon.
Health Guardian brings new trends and guidance
Health Guardian, introduced over the summer for Pixel Watch, is coming to Fitbit Air and Fitbit Edge later in October 2026 for Google Health Premium subscribers. The feature will give users a monthly summary in the Health app covering blood pressure and insulin resistance trends.
The in-app Health Coach will use these readings to provide lifestyle and wellness recommendations. Fitbit Edge users will also receive alerts when the device detects alarmingly high or low heart rates, while Health Guardian will look for major shifts in health metrics over time.
These features connect daily tracking with longer-term patterns. Instead of focusing only on a single workout or night of sleep, the Fitbit Edge is designed to help users follow changes across multiple health measurements inside the Health app.
Fitbit Edge brings a fresh hardware package
The Fitbit Edge will be available in stores on October 27 for £159.99, with a European price of €179, about $200. The device could cost about $180 in the United States, and every purchase includes three months of Google Health Premium.
Google says the Fitbit Edge has a 40 percent improvement in built-in GPS tracking accuracy and offers real-time visual guidance. It can track more than 50 exercise modes, while sleep stage detection is 15 percent more accurate than previous models.
- The battery capacity is 65mAh.
- The battery can last an entire week on a full charge.
- Five minutes of charging can provide a full day of battery life.
- The battery is replaceable.
- The device is rated IP68 and water-resistant to 50 metres.
Google says the Fitbit Edge can last up to seven days on a charge when the always-on display is disabled, or two days when it is enabled. That gives users a clear choice between longer endurance and a display that stays visible throughout the day.
The Fitbit Edge comes in Obsidian, Fog, Olive, and Canyon colors, with a Stephen Curry Special Edition starting at $219.99. The design also includes a flexible, stainless steel woven band option, while the new Metal Mesh band for Fitbit Air costs $70.
Pre-orders for the Metal Mesh band open next week, and the band arrives in stores on October 27. The Fitbit Edge itself is available to pre-order now, ahead of that October 27 launch.
Google’s Fitbit push is gaining momentum
Google teased the Fitbit Edge on October 9, 2026, with a post on Instagram and X carrying the caption, “Get an Edge on your health. 10.12.26.” Images of the device had been circulating since at least August 2026, building attention before Google announced the product and its release date at 9:00 am EST on October 12.
Now the product story is clear: Fitbit Edge combines broader workout recognition, stronger GPS tracking, improved sleep detection, Health Guardian insights, and a replaceable battery in one wearable. With Fitbit Air and multiple Pixel Watches receiving the same activity-tracking upgrade, Google is pushing its health platform toward a future where more workouts and health trends become part of the daily record without extra effort.
