Samsung and Motorola are back with new foldable phones in 2026. Samsung revealed the Galaxy Z Flip 8 on July 22. Motorola’s Razr Ultra has been out since May. Both offer fresh takes on foldable design and tech. But they target different buyers.
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 sports a 6.9-inch AMOLED screen at 120Hz. It hits a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. That’s bright enough for most outdoor use. The cover display measures 4.1 inches and runs at either 60 or 120Hz. It weighs 180 grams and is 6.1mm thin when unfolded. The phone comes in pale pink, cream white, and graphite black. The Motorola Razr Ultra offers a slightly larger 7.0-inch AMOLED screen. It refreshes at a faster 165Hz rate. The display can get very bright, peaking at 5,000 nits. Camera and Battery
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 8 features a triple camera setup. It has a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultrawide lens, and a 10MP selfie camera. It can record video in 4K at 60 frames per second. The phone packs a 4,300mAh battery. Samsung also includes 45W wired charging support.
The Razr Ultra pushes the camera game higher. It packs three 50MP cameras: main, ultrawide, and selfie. It supports 8K video recording, which is a step above Samsung’s 4K. The larger battery capacity is not specified here, but the phone’s specs suggest it balances power with performance.
Other Samsung Foldables Launched
At the same July 22 event, Samsung also unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra. Both run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. The Z Fold 8 has 50MP wide and ultrawide rear cameras and a 10MP selfie camera. It supports up to 26 hours of video playback.
The Z Fold 8 Ultra steps up the game with a 5,000mAh battery lasting up to 27 hours of video. Its rear cameras include a 200MP main sensor, 50MP ultrawide, and 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom. The Ultra also features 10MP cameras on both cover and main screens.
Design and Durability
Both the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Razr Ultra carry an IP48 rating. This means they resist water and dust to a solid degree. Samsung made the Z Flip 8 thinner and lighter. Motorola’s Razr Ultra is a bit heavier and thicker, especially when folded.
Samsung’s choice of colors for the Z Flip 8 adds a fresh look. The pale pink option stands out against the usual cream and graphite black. Motorola sticks to a more classic design approach with the Razr Ultra.
If you want a foldable phone with a balance of price, style, and solid features, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 at $1,200 is an attractive offer. If you prefer a bigger, brighter display with higher refresh rates and stronger video specs, the Razr Ultra at $1,500 might be your pick.
