OpenAI recently acquired a startup called NextSlide. This young company built software that turns raw material into polished presentations. The team behind NextSlide is now helping OpenAI improve ChatGPT.
NextSlide’s main product transformed prompts, notes, documents, or research into editable presentations. It made creating slides faster and easier. The startup launched just over a year before the acquisition.
Ahmed Beshry, NextSlide’s founder, shared the news on the startup’s website. He did not reveal any financial details about the deal. Now, the NextSlide site only shows a farewell note, confirming the product won’t continue independently.
The Team’s New Mission at OpenAI
Beshry said the team is excited to join OpenAI. “The NextSlide team is now at OpenAI, helping build ChatGPT,” he wrote. They want to keep building AI tools that help people create and communicate better.
He added, “We’re excited to continue pursuing that same mission: building AI products that help people create, communicate, and turn their ideas into meaningful work.” The move fits well with OpenAI’s goal to make AI useful across many tasks.
Beshry’s Track Record and the Bigger Picture
This is the second time Beshry has led a startup to acquisition. Before NextSlide, he co-founded Caper AI. Instacart acquired Caper AI on October 19, 2021. That deal marked a big step in Instacart’s enterprise business.
Caper AI built smart shopping carts that worked with big grocery chains like Kroger, Wakefern, and Sobeys. The carts helped stores improve checkout speed and shopping experience. Beshry’s experience with Caper AI shows his focus on practical AI solutions.
NextSlide’s acquisition highlights how OpenAI is growing by bringing in small teams with specialized AI skills. The NextSlide team’s experience with creating AI-powered tools for presentations fits well with ChatGPT’s expanding capabilities.
OpenAI’s investment in such teams suggests it plans to add even more creative and productivity features to ChatGPT. Helping users organize ideas and communicate clearly is a natural extension of what ChatGPT already does well.
