Muse Turns the Mac Into a Cross-App AI Command Center!

Meta has released Muse for Mac, bringing an AI agent that can work across the computer instead of staying inside one chat window. Muse can complete tasks using local files and native apps, connecting information from files, messages, calendar, notes, and mail wherever that data already lives.

The free macOS download is available only in the US for now, and it gives Muse a much wider workspace than its earlier launch across iOS, Android, the web, and WhatsApp. What happens when an AI assistant can gather scattered details, prepare work, and keep going after the desktop window closes? Muse is designed to answer that question.

Muse Can Work Across the Apps You Already Use

Muse for Mac can interact with files, messages, calendar, notes, and mail within their native applications. That lets it organize folders, finish forms using stored information, or build end-of-day summaries from emails, messages, and notes. Instead of asking users to move every piece of information into a separate system, Muse can work with context where it already exists.

That cross-computer reach is the heart of the product. Muse can collate different pieces of context across the computer, turning separate details into one task. A folder, a message, a calendar entry, and a note can all contribute to the same request when the user gives Muse access.

Users can start a task on their phone, check in from their laptop, or use WhatsApp, with Muse maintaining the thread across devices. The assistant can keep working in the background even when its desktop window is closed, so a task does not end just because the user moves to another screen.

Alexandr Wang, Meta’s Chief AI Officer, announced the launch with a direct description of the new capability: “muse for mac is HERE!! your agent can now get stuff done right on your computer — files, messages, calendar, notes, all of it. you’re in control of what it can access, and it always asks before doing anything sensitive.”

Control Sits With the User

Computer access is opt-in, and Full Disk Access remains optional. Users can change permissions at any time through Settings, giving them a way to adjust Muse’s reach as their needs change.

Muse also pauses for approval before sensitive actions. Deleting files or sending messages requires the user to approve the action, keeping those decisions in human hands instead of letting the agent complete them without a check.

Meta has built Muse as a hosted consumer agent, not an open model for self-hosting. It runs on its own dedicated computer in the cloud, contained so no other agent can reach it. A Sentinel agent runs on the same machine, kept apart from Muse at the system level, and nothing Muse does reaches the internet unless Sentinel approves it.

Meta plans to introduce Muse Confidential VM later in 2026. That system will encrypt the entire virtual machine with a key only the user holds, adding another layer to the product’s security design. Meta also runs a public bug bounty for Muse.

A New Push for Personal Computer Agents

Muse is powered by Muse Spark, Meta’s most capable model to date. The same model powers Muse Code, a coding agent, giving Meta a model foundation that reaches beyond personal organization and into software development.

Muse launched on September 8, 2026, in the US across iOS, Android, the web, and WhatsApp. The Mac release expands that reach onto the computer where local files and native apps already hold the user’s information.

Access is free up to 100M tokens per week. That gives users room to test tasks that stretch across multiple applications while Meta brings the agent to another major device environment.

Mark Zuckerberg announced the Mac app on X, writing, “The team is shipping fast.” Alexandr Wang announced the launch the same day, underlining the speed behind this expansion.

The Mac app pushes Muse toward a future where an AI agent does not just answer questions but follows a task through the user’s digital workspace. With permissions, approval gates, device handoffs, background work, and a security system built around Sentinel, Muse is putting that vision directly on the computer.

For now, the US-only release marks the next step. Meta’s planned Confidential VM later in 2026 points to the next layer, where stronger encryption could give users more control over the environment handling their work. The computer assistant race has moved from conversation to action, and Muse is stepping into the middle of it.
