Pixel Watch 5 Brings Cuff-Free Health Tracking and Longer Battery Life

Google announced the Pixel Watch 5 on Friday 14 August 2026, with health tracking features that focus on long-term patterns rather than one-off readings. The watch can track blood pressure trends without an inflatable cuff and monitor insulin resistance trends over the course of a month.
Those features make the Pixel Watch 5 more than a device for counting workouts or checking notifications. It uses sensors and machine learning to spot patterns in blood pressure over weeks and months, then can alert users if their blood pressure is trending upward. The watch also tracks minute-by-minute changes in blood oxygen levels while users sleep.
Health tracking built around trends
The blood pressure feature is designed around changes over time. Instead of using an inflatable cuff, the Pixel Watch 5 tracks blood pressure trends through its sensors and machine learning system. That lets the watch look across weeks and months, giving users a view of whether readings are moving upward.
The same longer view applies to insulin resistance. The Pixel Watch 5 can monitor insulin resistance trends over the course of a month, adding another health measure to the information available through the watch.
Sleep tracking also gets a more detailed role. The Pixel Watch 5 can analyze minute-by-minute changes in blood oxygen levels while sleeping, and its smart wake alarms can wake users at the optimal point in their sleep cycle.
These tools give the watch several ways to follow patterns across health and sleep. Blood pressure trends, insulin resistance trends, overnight blood oxygen changes, and smart wake alarms all sit alongside the device’s fitness features.
More control during workouts
The Pixel Watch 5 can sync with the Google Health app to build and track workouts. It supports more than 50 trackable sports and exercise types, giving users a broad set of options for recording different activities.
During a workout, the watch can provide audio and visual cues, and users can make changes mid-workout. That means the activity can be adjusted from the watch while it is underway, rather than requiring users to leave the workout and start again.
GPS tracking is also more accurate on the Pixel Watch 5, especially on trails and around tall buildings. Those improvements target the places where location tracking can be harder, including outdoor routes and areas surrounded by high structures.
The watch can also surface information proactively based on phone activity. Some Gemini commands work offline, so selected voice controls do not always require a connection to handle the request.
Faster performance and bigger battery options
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated chip powers the Pixel Watch 5. Google says the chip delivers 20% faster processing than the Pixel Watch 4, giving the new watch a performance increase alongside its health and workout tools.
Battery life depends on the case size and the selected setting. The 41mm Pixel Watch 5 lasts up to 30 hours with the always-on display, while the 45mm version lasts up to 40 hours.
Battery saver mode extends those figures to 48 hours for the 41mm model and 72 hours for the 45mm model. A 15-minute charge provides an additional 15 hours of use, which gives both sizes a quick way to recover battery time.
The battery figures create a clear split between the two sizes. The 41mm model is smaller but offers less time between charges, while the 45mm model lasts longer in both standard use with the always-on display and battery saver mode.
Prices and release date
The Pixel Watch 5 will go on sale on 20 August 2026. Google has set separate prices for the 41mm and 45mm models, with each size available in wifi-only and LTE versions.
- The 41mm wifi-only model costs £369.
- The 41mm LTE model costs £469.
- The 45mm wifi-only model costs £399.
- The 45mm LTE model costs £499.
That gives buyers four versions to choose from, with a £100 difference between wifi-only and LTE at each size. The 45mm model costs £30 more than the 41mm version in both connection options.
The Pixel Watch 5 combines cuff-free blood pressure trend tracking, monthly insulin resistance monitoring, detailed sleep readings, workout controls, improved GPS tracking, offline Gemini commands, and longer battery options. Its central idea is simple: use sensors and machine learning to turn daily readings into patterns users can follow over time.
