Docked, Switch 2 wins the power contest. In handheld mode, the gap between Nintendo’s console and Valve’s Steam Deck is much narrower, with both devices trading advantages across graphics, processors, memory, and game support.

The answer depends on where you play. The Switch 2 can pull away when connected to a dock, while the Steam Deck remains a strong portable PC with more memory and a faster CPU clock. Raw numbers do not settle the whole argument, because hardware only matters when software can use it.

Portable Power Is Almost Even

The CPU comparison is less tidy. Switch 2 also has over 1,500 CUDA cores, which gives it a stronger foundation for ray-tracing. Games like Star Wars Outlaws benefit from that hardware, while Steam Deck can technically handle ray-tracing but suffers limited performance without dedicated CUDA cores. On Valve’s machine, advanced lighting can become an expensive feature with a very small return.

Switch 2 benefits from being a fixed platform. Developers know exactly which hardware they are targeting, so they can tune games around one defined system instead of accounting for the sprawling variety of PC configurations. Steam Deck uses fixed components too, but PC titles are not designed to run smoothly on it by default.
