Amazon’s $48 Billion India Cloud and AI Push by 2030

Amazon is doubling down on India’s cloud and AI market with a colossal $48 billion investment plan through 2030. This announcement comes after last year’s $35 billion pledge, pushing total spending from 2010 to 2030 beyond $88 billion.
The company will inject an additional $13 billion starting 2026, ramping up AWS data centers in Mumbai and Hyderabad. By 2027, a new AWS data center region will launch in Hyderabad, marking a strategic expansion in India’s rapidly growing cloud infrastructure.
Amazon’s CEO Andy Jassy, who arrived in India on June 24, 2026, met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to discuss the investments. Maharashtra’s significance is clear—it hosts AWS’s first Indian infrastructure region and serves as the creative hub for Prime Video’s Indian operations.
Amazon’s ambitions extend beyond infrastructure. It aims to empower 15 million small businesses with AI tools, provide AI education to 4 million government school students, and support startups, enterprises, and government projects with AI chips and managed services. The goal: $80 billion in cumulative exports and sustaining 3.8 million jobs through 2030.
Jassy called AI “the most transformational technology he has seen in his lifetime,” praising India’s engineering talent and fast digital adoption. He said, “India will be where some of AI’s most important applications are built” and that the country “has the scale, talent and ambition to shape the next era of AI-led business transformation.”
Amazon has digitized over 6 million small and medium businesses in India and created 1.5 million direct and indirect jobs so far. Its investments also back Maharashtra’s digital economy through skilling, exports enablement, cloud infrastructure, and logistics.
The company stressed compliance with Indian laws and ongoing partnership with the government to support small businesses. India remains a top priority for Amazon as it battles for dominance in a market fiercely contested for AI infrastructure.
