Apple’s HomeKit Reboot Arrives Before Its Foldable iPhone

Apple is putting the home back on its calendar. The company will unveil new smart home products at an event on October 13, 2026, scheduled for 9AM ET in Tribeca, New York. The timing is deliberate—or at least hard to ignore, since the event lands ten days before Apple launches the iPhone Duo on October 23, 2026.

Apple announced the event as its second event of the fall, with a focus on smart home products. Its tagline is “Welcome home,” a phrase Greg Joswiak, Apple’s marketing chief, used in the announcement. The company also said, “We look forward to welcoming you to an Apple Experience.” Apple has never met a product launch without a little theater.

The main attraction is a new home hub, possibly called the HomePad. The device is expected to feature a 7-inch display and run a new operating system called homeOS, with a dashboard similar to StandBy mode on iPhones.

A Display for the Center of the Home

The HomePad is rumored to use face and voice recognition to personalize content. It will support FaceTime calls, video and music streaming, intercom communication, and control of smart home products, giving Apple a single device for several jobs that already belong to separate products.

That combination would make the HomePad more than a screen mounted in the home. It would act as a control point for Apple’s new home ecosystem, although the details of its design, software, and pricing remain outside the announced facts. For now, the 7-inch display and homeOS dashboard are the clearest signals of Apple’s direction.

Apple also expects hardware upgrades for the new Apple TV and HomePod mini. Those upgrades will support Siri AI, bringing the company’s artificial intelligence push into the living room rather than keeping it tied to phones and computers.

Recent macOS beta code suggests the revamped speaker may gain a display with an Apple Watch-style interface. That would give the HomePod mini a more visible role in the home, though Apple has not confirmed the final design or whether the display will arrive as part of the event’s hardware lineup.

Apple’s HomeKit Reboot

The broader product plan includes a doorbell, a thermostat, and other accessories. Together, these devices will mark a reboot of the HomeKit platform launched in 2014, shifting Apple’s smart home effort from a software framework toward a larger collection of hardware and services.

Apple is developing the new products through a partnership with LG Electronics. The relationship places the upcoming home ecosystem alongside Apple’s established products while adding a partner already connected to the hardware side of the market.

The event’s placement before the iPhone Duo launch gives Apple two major hardware moments in October. The company plans to release the iPhone Duo, its first foldable phone, in a couple of weeks, with the launch set for October 23, 2026.

That schedule gives the October 13 event a job beyond introducing another screen and another speaker. Apple is using it to reset its position in the home, connect Siri AI to new hardware, and expand the platform that began with HomeKit in 2014. Whether the HomePad becomes the center of that plan will depend on the details Apple reveals in Tribeca.
