Exploring New AI Tools Transforming Code and Creativity

Mario Zechner, the developer behind libGDX, created a new AI coding assistant called Pi. Its current version is 0.80.3 and it offers four main tools: read, write, edit, and bash. Pi’s system prompt is designed to stay under 1,000 tokens, keeping it lean and flexible. It also allows users to add custom instructions via AGENTS.md files. The GitHub repository for Pi recently passed 70,000 stars, showing strong community interest.

Despite its promise, Pi has some limits. It lacks multi-agent orchestration and plan mode. It doesn’t support permission confirmation popups or built-in to-do tracking. Background bash execution is also missing. The platform supports API keys for popular providers like Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google, letting developers connect their preferred AI services. This minimalist design keeps Pi focused but leaves out features found in other coding agents.

In a different part of the AI world, a Beijing-based company called Z.ai developed GLM-5.2. This free, open-source model supports a massive 1 million-token context window, putting it on par with giants like GPT-5.5 and Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4.8. Tests showed GLM-5.2 can handle simple tasks well, such as writing emails, recommending cat food, planning trips, and even creating posters.

However, GLM-5.2 is slower than premium AI models. It often runs into capacity issues, which limit its reliability. The poster design it produced looked more like a bar menu than a luxury ad, but it worked and allowed downloads. If Z.ai improves speed and stability, GLM-5.2 could become a strong free alternative for users who don’t want to pay subscription fees.

AI’s Impact on WordPress Development Costs

The rise of AI coding tools is reshaping software development, especially in WordPress. WPCoder AI, a company focused on domain-specific code generation, reported a 65 percent drop in custom WordPress development costs. Their platform also cuts remediation time for security issues by over 80 percent. This shows AI can not only speed up coding but also improve safety and reduce bugs.

Niat Murad, WPCoder AI’s founder, says these savings come from using models trained specifically for WordPress. This targeted approach helps generate more accurate and secure code, reducing the need for manual fixes. The results hint at a future where AI tools play a central role in web development, making projects faster and cheaper.

Peeking Inside Claude’s Mind with the Jacobian Lens

Anthropic took a different approach by building a tool called the Jacobian lens, or J-lens. It helps researchers explore how their AI model Claude Opus 4.6 thinks. The J-lens reveals a “J-space,” which contains words related to the model’s near-future responses. This offers a glimpse into intermediate steps during calculations or when recognizing patterns like amino acid sequences or ASCII faces.

Interestingly, Claude’s “chain of thought” sometimes includes choices like adding a deliberate bug. Words like “panic” and “fake” appear in the J-space, showing the model’s internal decisions. Tom McGrath, chief scientist at Goodfire, praised the J-lens as “very good and interesting work.” He compared it to an x-ray, useful but limited. He said it’s not a perfect tool, more like having a Star Trek tricorder that shows everything would be ideal.

This kind of research into AI’s internal workings is rare. It helps build trust and understanding around complex models. While the J-lens doesn’t reveal everything, it sets a new standard for transparency in AI development.

All these advancements—from Pi’s coding tools to GLM-5.2’s massive context and Claude’s introspection—show AI is expanding in many directions. Some tools focus on practical coding help. Others push open-source boundaries or dig into AI’s thinking. Together, they paint a picture of AI growing smarter and more useful for developers and creators alike.
