How Leo Brunnick Is Shaping Cloudera’s Next Data Era

Leo Brunnick brings more than three decades of experience to his role as Chief Product Officer at Cloudera. His career has moved across technology consulting, enterprise software, digital media, and operations, giving him a broad view of how organizations adopt and manage technology.

At Cloudera, Brunnick leads Product Management, Engineering, and Customer Support. His work sits at the center of the company’s effort to help large global enterprises manage, govern, analyze, and apply artificial intelligence to their data.

“Technology is most valuable when it makes something complicated easier for people to use,” Brunnick says. That idea connects his career history with Cloudera’s current platform strategy, which brings data management, analytics, machine learning, generative AI, and agentic AI capabilities into one enterprise data and AI platform.

A career built across technology and operations

Before joining Cloudera in 2025, Brunnick spent six years at Naviga as Chief Operating Officer. That role added operational leadership to a career that already included product development, entrepreneurship, and technology consulting.

Earlier, Brunnick founded Patheos and served as its CEO. He grew the digital media platform to approximately 15 million monthly visitors before a successful exit. That experience placed him close to the challenges of building a digital product, serving a large audience, and guiding a company through a major business transition.

Brunnick also spent eight years as Chief Product Officer at Vignette, an enterprise content management company. His background includes technology consulting at Andersen Consulting and service as a U.S. Marine Corps infantry officer.

Taken together, those roles cover product management, engineering, customer support, company operations, entrepreneurship, enterprise content management, and consulting. They also give Brunnick experience with both the technical and organizational sides of technology work.

Cloudera’s enterprise data and AI platform

Cloudera focuses on helping organizations manage, govern, analyze, and apply AI to data. Its platform combines data management and analytics with machine learning, generative AI, and agentic AI capabilities, giving enterprises a connected foundation for different types of data and AI workloads.

The scale is substantial. Cloudera’s platform manages more than 25 exabytes of data, and its technology is used by large global enterprises. At that size, data platforms must address more than storage and analysis. Cloudera emphasizes enterprise security, governance, privacy, and workload portability as part of the platform’s role.

These priorities matter because enterprises need control over how data is handled and how AI systems use it. Security and privacy address protection, governance provides oversight, and workload portability supports the movement of work across infrastructure environments. Each capability forms part of Cloudera’s enterprise approach.

Cloudera’s current platform strategy includes Cloudera Anywhere Cloud, an architecture designed to provide a consistent cloud experience across different infrastructure environments. The approach connects with the company’s focus on workload portability while supporting organizations that manage data and AI across varied infrastructure.

Building on what organizations already have

Brunnick describes the next stage of Cloudera’s work as an effort to help organizations benefit from new technologies without forcing them to discard existing systems. “As we build this next era at Cloudera, I often consider how we can enable organizations to benefit from new technologies without requiring them to rethink everything they have already built.”

That view places continuity alongside innovation. Cloudera’s platform brings together established data management and analytics capabilities with machine learning, generative AI, and agentic AI. Its security, governance, privacy, and workload portability priorities are designed for organizations that already have data, infrastructure, and technology investments in place.

Brunnick’s responsibilities span Product Management, Engineering, and Customer Support, so his role covers the product from development through customer use. His experience at Naviga, Patheos, Vignette, and Andersen Consulting adds different perspectives on how products are built, operated, adopted, and improved.

Published October 1, 2026, the discussion presents Brunnick’s background alongside Cloudera’s enterprise data and AI strategy. The central theme is clear: advanced technology has the greatest value when organizations can use it without losing control of their data or abandoning the systems they already depend on.
