LG’s Robot Data Factory Powers a New AI Manufacturing Race

LG Electronics is turning robot training into a massive data operation, and its new Seoul facility is at the center of the plan. On August 18, 2026, the company hosted senior NVIDIA officials at its robot Data Factory as both companies pushed toward a target of 100,000 hours of robot training data by the end of 2026.

The ambition is striking: LG wants to compress roughly 12 years of robot experience into a few months of collected data. That information will support the company’s Robot Foundation Model, while NVIDIA’s robotics tools will help augment and synthesize the data into higher-quality training material.

A Four-Floor Engine for Robot Training

LG’s Data Factory is still under construction at its Yangjae R&D Campus in Seoul, but the company has already deployed its self-developed LG CLOiD home robots across training spaces. The facility spans four floors and includes 10,000 square meters of total floor area, giving LG room to expand its robot fleet and build a large training environment.

LG expects the Data Factory to house several hundred robots by the end of 2026. The robots will generate data from their environments, and that information will feed into NVIDIA’s robotics stack for augmentation and synthesis. The goal is not only to gather more examples, but to create training material that can help robots handle a wider range of tasks.

LG introduced its household robot, LG CLOiD, at CES in January 2026. The company also has robotics work underway through LG CNS, which is running logistics automation work, and LG Innotek, which is training robotic hands. Together, these efforts give LG multiple paths into home robotics, industrial automation, and physical AI.

From Home Robots to Humanoid Machines

The Seoul meeting followed a memorandum of understanding signed by LG Group and NVIDIA at NVIDIA’s Santa Clara headquarters on August 13, 2026. Koo Kwang-mo, LG Group Chairman, described the shared direction: “As cooperation between the two companies accelerates, the tasks we need to pursue together in AI factories, physical AI and mobility have become clear.”

LG is exploring NVIDIA’s Isaac GR00T foundation model for its home robots and modular platforms, while the two companies plan to jointly develop reference robots. LG also plans to develop its next-generation bipedal humanoid robot by the first quarter of 2027.

That humanoid project will use NVIDIA’s Jetson Thor high-performance embedded computing module, the Isaac GR00T open humanoid foundation model, and the Halos robotics safety system. The combination links robot hardware, a foundation model, embedded computing, and safety tools in one development push.

Jensen Huang, NVIDIA CEO, framed the partnership around a wider industrial shift: “LG and Nvidia are bringing together LG’s leadership in product engineering and manufacturing with Nvidia’s technology to accelerate a new era of robotics, AI factories and autonomous vehicles.”

The Bigger AI Factory and Mobility Plan

LG’s robotics drive is part of a broader plan that reaches into factory infrastructure. The company established a robotics business center reporting directly to its chief executive in June 2026, and it plans to establish a reference AI factory site in the first half of 2027 in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province.

The Cheonan AI factory will expand to 80 megawatts during the first half of 2028. LG plans to use prefabricated modular construction at the site, with a design intended to reduce building time by more than 20%. The company also plans to test cooling, power, and information technology systems based on NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin AI platform there.

That same partnership extends to vehicles. LG and NVIDIA plan to jointly develop a high-performance computing platform for AI-defined vehicles, while LG plans to use NVIDIA’s autonomous-driving technology and automotive computing platforms to expand its automotive electronics business.

LG intends to offer solutions that combine self-driving functions with in-vehicle AI services. The plan connects the company’s work in robot learning, AI factories, embedded computing, and mobility instead of treating each area as a separate project.

Investors have already reacted to the news. Shares of LG Electronics were trading at about 217,000 won ($151) around 9:30 a.m. Friday, up about 5% from the previous session.

The next milestones are now clear: 100,000 hours of robot data by the end of 2026, a next-generation bipedal humanoid robot by the first quarter of 2027, and a Cheonan AI factory that will scale to 80 megawatts during the first half of 2028. LG is building the data, machines, and facilities it believes will define its next phase of robotics and AI manufacturing.
