Accenture’s Mid-Market AI Push Gains New Power in Tokyo

Accenture is expanding its push into the mid-market with a major move in Tokyo. The company has reached an agreement to acquire COMWARE, bringing more than 180 technology professionals into Accenture’s growing business for companies seeking faster technology and AI transformation.
The deal adds a technology services firm with deep SAP experience, a broad Salesforce relationship and more than 25 years of work as a business partner of SAP Japan. It also strengthens Accenture Edge, the business Accenture launched in June 2026 to serve the worldwide mid-market segment.
A Tokyo Technology Firm Joins Accenture Edge
COMWARE provides end-to-end technology services that cover core business system implementation, development, maintenance and operations. Based in Tokyo, the company has built its business around helping organizations manage essential technology systems from initial implementation through ongoing operations.
COMWARE has acted as a business partner of SAP Japan for over 25 years and has extended its reach as a Salesforce business partner. The company was founded in September 2000, giving its incoming team a long operating history across enterprise technology services.
More than 180 professionals from COMWARE are expected to join Accenture. Their experience adds to Accenture’s ability to support mid-market companies as they adopt enterprise software, update business systems and pursue AI-led changes across their operations.
Tetsu Kayama, COMWARE president, connected the agreement to the company’s SAP roots and its plans for growth:
“Since our founding in September 2000, COMWARE has been at the forefront of SAP-centered ERP solutions. As AI continues to rapidly reshape the industry, we sought greater opportunities to accelerate our growth, and joining Accenture was the decision we needed to make to realise that ambition.”
Accenture Targets a $240bn Mid-Market Opportunity
Accenture has identified the worldwide mid-market segment as a $240bn total addressable market. The company considers mid-market companies vital to economic growth and employment, and Accenture Edge is designed to build a business with a target revenue range of $300m and $3bn.
That range signals the scale Accenture sees in companies outside the largest enterprise accounts. By adding COMWARE’s technology services and professional team, Accenture Edge gains another way to connect mid-market organizations with business systems, managed services and AI transformation work.
Dai Hamaoka, Accenture representative director, president and Japan country managing director, framed speed as a central issue for companies adopting AI:
“As AI becomes foundational to how companies operate and compete, speed of execution has become increasingly critical to improving decision-making, productivity and competitiveness.”
COMWARE’s capabilities fit that focus because its services span implementation, development, maintenance and operations. Those functions give businesses a path from core system work to the ongoing technology support needed after deployment.
A Broader Acquisition Strategy Takes Shape
The COMWARE agreement is part of a wider sequence of moves around Accenture Edge. Earlier in the week, Accenture also announced an agreement to acquire McCoy, a company founded in 2012 and headquartered in the Netherlands, with offices in Spain and the Philippines.
McCoy brings SAP services covering ERP, data, business solutions, managed services and enterprise integration. Alongside COMWARE’s SAP Japan partnership and Salesforce reach, the two agreements point to an Edge strategy built around expanding technology services across multiple markets and business needs.
Accenture Edge has also been adding AI-focused capabilities through partnerships. Last month, Accenture Edge and Google Cloud announced a suite of agentic solutions for mid-market technology and AI transformation, giving the business another route into the fast-moving shift toward AI-supported operations.
The combination creates a clear pattern: Accenture is pairing established enterprise technology expertise with services aimed at mid-market companies, while using AI transformation as a key reason for those businesses to act now. COMWARE brings Tokyo-based delivery strength, SAP experience and more than 180 expected new professionals to that effort.
As of August 28, 2026, the COMWARE transaction remains an agreement to acquire the company. If the deal moves forward, Accenture Edge will gain another important foundation for its $240bn mid-market opportunity, with technology services and AI transformation driving the next stage of its expansion.
