Epic Games Launcher V2 Promises Massive Speed and Fresh Features

Epic Games is rebuilding its game launcher from the ground up. The new version aims to be five times faster at cold starts. It also promises to restore the library from the system tray up to 6.5 times faster. This is a big deal for players frustrated by the current launcher’s slow performance.

The current Epic Games Launcher has drawn criticism for being sluggish and clunky. Gamers often avoid it, even using alternatives like Steam to access their Epic titles. Epic acknowledged these issues and decided to overhaul the entire architecture instead of patching small problems.

The rebuilt launcher, called Launcher V2, will first enter a private beta before going public. Epic plans to release it sometime this summer, though no exact date is set. The goal is to make the launcher feel smooth and responsive from the moment it opens.

A More Dynamic Storefront and New Features

Alongside speed improvements, Epic is revamping the Epic Games Store’s design. The homepage will become personalized, offering quick access to categories and game recommendations based on player preferences. Product pages will feature more than just static listings—they’ll include community highlights, story content, and player progress tracking.

Players will soon see patch notes directly on game store pages. Developers can publish updates with images, rich text, and scheduled posts. This means gamers won’t have to leave the store to track changes, matching features Steam has long offered.

Building a Social Gaming Hub

Epic’s roadmap includes adding social features to the launcher. These will bring player profiles, avatars, and written user reviews. Messaging, voice chat, and cross-game parties are also planned. The company wants to move beyond just a store and create a community hub.

Other planned features include universal controller support and improved library management. Fortnite fans will benefit from chunked installation, making updates faster and less of a hassle. Publisher-funded coupons and better search functionality are also on the horizon.

Epic faces a tough challenge competing with Steam, which dominates PC game distribution. Steam handles millions of users daily and offers a mature ecosystem. The Epic Games Store has grown to 78 million monthly active users but struggles to keep them engaged outside promotions.

If Epic can deliver on its promises, Launcher V2 could narrow the gap. Faster load times and a richer storefront will make the experience more enjoyable. The new social features might also improve retention by fostering player interaction. For years, Epic has promised improvements. Now, the company is taking bold steps to make them real.

In short, the Epic Games Launcher V2 is more than just a speed upgrade. It’s a fresh start designed to reshape how players discover, manage, and enjoy their games. The changes could redefine Epic’s place in PC gaming, making it a stronger contender against established platforms.
