Meta Connect 2026 has hardware on the agenda. The two-day event runs from September 23 to 24, with Meta expected to unveil new AI technologies, AI glasses and VR products. The headline device may be Meta’s first-ever pair of camera-free smart glasses. Meta is expected to show glasses without cameras onboard, with six built-in microphones that support conversations with Meta’s AI assistant. The new glasses will come in two styles, giving Meta another attempt to make wearable AI feel like a product rather than a demo with a prescription.
The camera-free design also addresses privacy concerns and backlash aimed at Meta’s current glasses lineup. Removing cameras does not settle every question about always-listening hardware, but it gives Meta a direct answer to one of the most visible complaints surrounding its existing products.
Meta already unveiled a new series of Meta Glasses earlier in 2026, and the new models would expand that lineup instead of replacing the company’s interest in wearable computing. The event will show whether microphones, an AI assistant and two styles are enough to make the next version stand apart.
Project Phoenix enters the headset race
Meta is also expected to launch a mixed reality headset codenamed Project Phoenix. Images of the Phoenix headset surfaced earlier in 2026 in a HorizonOS update, turning an otherwise unconfirmed product into one of Connect’s clearest hardware stories.
The headset is rumored to support hand and eye tracking rather than a dedicated controller. It may use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Reality Elite chip, which Qualcomm announced earlier in 2026. That combination would put the emphasis on direct interaction and headset computing instead of another pair of handheld controllers waiting to be misplaced under a sofa.
Meta is expected to promote entertainment-focused offerings in VR and AR alongside the Phoenix hardware. The company has been shuttering VR studios recently, so the entertainment pitch arrives with an awkward piece of context: Meta wants more attention on immersive content while reducing parts of the operation that makes that content.
Avatars, developers and the remaining surprises
Meta may showcase holographic avatars first seen with its Orion prototype. Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth’s avatar could appear during the Connect keynote, adding a visible demonstration to an event already packed with glasses, headsets and AI claims.
Bosworth said Meta would have “more to say” about the issue during Connect. The quote leaves room for discussion around the company’s glasses, privacy concerns and the broader direction of its wearable products without confirming a specific announcement.
Meta says “everyone is invited to join us virtually for Meta Connect,” with the keynote scheduled for September 23 at 7PM ET and developer sessions beginning September 24 at 1PM ET. The event follows the expected Apple iPhone Duo reveal by two weeks after September 9, placing Meta’s hardware announcements in a crowded stretch for consumer technology.
One rumored product remains outside the confirmed picture: Meta’s “Hypernova 2” device has been rumored but not confirmed. For now, the camera-free glasses and Project Phoenix carry the most weight, while Meta’s AI assistant, holographic avatars and VR entertainment plans fill out the broader Connect pitch.
