AI Microdramas, Virtual Actors, and Smart Room Design Take Off

Character.AI has started producing its own microdramas using AI characters. These short shows let users older than 18 chat with the characters, ask questions, and even roleplay with them. The company launched three titles: Last Summer, The Nighttime Game, and Eden Fall. This is just the beginning. A company spokesperson said they want to help users create their own characters and series in the future.

To expand the experience, Character.AI is testing new features called c.ai FM and c.ai Reads. These will focus on audio series and fiction creation. It’s a way to let people enjoy stories in different formats. Users spent more than 950 minutes on Character.AI each month during the first half of 2026. That shows strong engagement with these AI-driven narratives.

Meanwhile, Japan has invested in character IP creation, spotlighting a social media-born character named Opanchu Usagi. Created by Kawaisouni!, this pink rabbit became popular with Generation Z after debuting in 2022. It shows how characters created for digital spaces can quickly gain cultural traction.

Virtual Actors Stir Debate

Particle6, a production studio, is making waves with its upcoming film Misaligned. The movie stars Tilly Norwood, an AI-generated actress. It’s a comedy-drama and will mix human and AI performances. Particle6 founder Eline Van der Velden called this a “hybrid production” combining technology and human craft.

Not everyone is sold on AI actors. Film critic Richard Crouse called AI actors a “grand experiment” with a chilly reception so far. He pointed out that AI lacks true emotion and life experience. “It feels like something that was made by a robot,” he said. Crouse also noted that Tilly Norwood has no social media presence because she isn’t real. For many younger viewers, authenticity matters a lot.

The Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) does not recognize Tilly Norwood as an actor. They emphasize that an actor’s craft involves real emotion and life experience. Crouse added that AI recreations are like mirages. He referenced the AI-generated Val Kilmer footage shown at CinemaCon in April 2026, saying it’s not a real performance but a “superficial reimagination.”

AI Designs Your Room in Seconds

On a different front, MeltFlex AI, a Slovakian startup, has reached over 213,000 users worldwide with its interior design platform. Founded by Matúš Koleják and Braňo Hrivňák, MeltFlex AI can turn a photo of a room into a photorealistic 3D render in about 20 seconds. That used to take staging studios weeks and cost thousands of euros.

Koleják said their goal is to keep the original room’s structure while linking the furniture users see to real products. The platform connects to retailers like IKEA, Amazon, and Wayfair. That way, users can shop for the exact items in their virtual room. Hrivňák added that this technology changes the economics for anyone helping people imagine a space.

MeltFlex AI offers a free entry tier. Paid plans cost about €29 for the standard and €59 for the pro version each month. The platform gives users a practical tool for redesigning their homes without guesswork or expensive consultations.

These developments show AI moving deeper into entertainment and daily life. From interactive microdramas to virtual actors and smart home design, AI is creating new experiences. The mix of technology and human creativity is still evolving. But it’s clear AI is becoming a powerful tool for storytelling and design.
